The Humane Society of the United States is working with the Puerto Rican government to crack down on puppy mills, enforce existing animal cruelty laws in the commonwealth and promote adoption and humane education in schools. This is the first time a project of this magnitude has been launched in any individual area of the world to tackle animal welfare issues. On April 15, 2015, The HSUS hosted a training session with police officers, shown here, where the officers were given evidence kits, including a digital camera, to help them enforce existing animal cruelty laws. This was part of a week of all-day trainings. Approximately 800 FBI agents, police officers, prosecutors and other law enforcement officials attended these sessions. In this image, Adam Parascandola, Director of Animal Protection and Crisis Response for Humane Society International, gives police officers their new evidence kits at the training session.
