Members of Vshine, one of HSI's partner groups in China, tend to two pet dogs that were left behind during the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. During the outbreak, some pet owners left their animals behind with extra food and water, assuming that they would return within a few days. When travel restrictions prevented them from returning, they asked Vshine to check on and feed their pets.
In addition, thousands of pet dogs and cats in China were abandoned out of an unfounded fear that the animals might transmit the coronavirus. HSI's partners in China, including Vshine, are rescuing abandoned pets and informing the public that dogs and cats do not pose a risk.
